Freedive Hawaii:  Mayuki@Sea…

Good morning 6am.

North shore 2-4′ and bumpy.

Ala Moana flat to knee high and strong offshore winds.

Diamond Head shoulder high and side shore windy.

Trade winds at 30mph.

Sun, showers, and huge rainbows.

Going North.

Have a wonderful day!

Surf With Aloha

look at this photo somebody posted last night.  the whole surfboard rack next to the Moana Surfrider hotel on fire!  hundreds of surfboards, thousands of dollars, and millions of memories all gone.   so sad…

Seira-chan and i looked at Bowls early this morning and it was totally flat!  so we were on the way to surf Diamond Head and i thought, “hey, let’s go free dive today!”  of course she said yes.  so that’s what we did…

that’s she special thing about this girl.  she just goes with the flow.  and if you can go with the flow with me, we will experience amazing things.   that’s because i follow what the ocean and conditions are telling me, and if you learn how to follow that, you will score no matter what.

passing by Bowls on the way out.  total flatness.  Seira-chan was excited, so was i…

usually it takes about 10 free dive lessons before i let somebody use a weight belt.  that’s because it could be very dangerous.  being Seira-chan’s only second time, i knew she was ready.  and i knew we were going deep today…

in the middle of the sea with nobody else around but the turtles, fish, and shark.  yeah, the shark was there today.  lucky us…

water clarity was perfect.  nature was at its best.  and if you can keep calm and connect to the ocean, you will experience things people can only dream of…

“SURF WITH ALOHA”

there is a free community event tomorrow night at Kewalo’s.  i encourage every surfer to go attend.  special guests Seth Moniz and Carissa Moore will be there talking about surf etiquette.   i surf everyday and see so many surfers that have no etiquette at all.  maybe because they don’t know?  maybe because nobody taught them?  or maybe because they are idiots?  what ever it is, there is a correct way to surf and once you understand that, you will be even better…

EVERYBODY WELCOMED

KEWALO BASIN HO’OKUPU CENTER

Dark Patrol and a Million Views…

i dropped off Seira-chan off at the beach at 6am in the morning.  the first thing she said was “it’s dark.”  haha.  i laughed and said “you won’t see anything when you paddle out.  just go out there and connect with the ocean and you will feel it.”  i told her to paddle out by herself and i’ll be back in 20 minutes when it gets lighter.  so she had the whole ocean to herself.  and after we surfed, she said “my favorite time is early morning now.”  haha.  i knew she would love it…when Seira-chan rides waves, i can see a lot of people watching her.  and that’s because she’s good.  it’s amazing how cool and calm this girl has become in the ocean…watching her catch sets at Bowls on her own, and riding it all the way to the rock wall.  that’s wave knowledge…ok, here is the best photo i got of Seira-chan’s first free dive.  and if you learn how to free dive, this will be your view.  i will never forget the first time i looked up and saw this when i was a kid.  it’s one of the most beautiful thing you will ever see.  and after seeing this about a million of times, it still amazes me…
