so stoked to have good friends like Kekoa and Kyle. i can just call them the day before and ask “hey, you guys like go fish tomorrow?” and they say “ok, what time?”

ever since i came back to hawaii from my japan trip, i’ve been craving fresh fish. just want to eat it anyway and everyday.

after we got in yesterday, i washed the boat while Kyle and Kekoa went to clean and cut up the fish. then i suddenly got super tired so it was time for a nap. i fell asleep in 2 minutes and woke up 15 minutes later dripping sweat.

then it started raining super hard. where else in the world would it be storming rain with super blue clear sky? only in hawaii.

then the double rainbow comes out. cool!

i had to attend a members meeting yesterday. it was very interesting.

want to thank Kyle, Kekoa, and Mr. Nakamoto for taking the time to clean and filet all the fish. it must have been hard work.

then Kekoa drops off my cooler filled with fish and ice.

nicely packaged for consumption. first class!

yes, i have fish for the week just how i wanted. sashimi, baked, carpaccio, stir fry, grilled, and much more.

i had to try it so i cut up a few pieces and ate it with hot rice and miso soup. fresh, simple, healthy, and free.

i don’t drink when i’m home. but i was craving a beer. looked in the refrigerator and nothing??? so i grab a bottle of Dassai Sake and make a toast to myself. a very satisfying day it was!!!!

Hawaii Sports Fishing: Magic Day!

omg, today was freaking amazing!!! left my house at 4:30am and was excited to start off the day.

we were 30 miles out to sea when the sun started to rise. lucky no whales didn’t jump and tipped the boat over.

Kyle laying out the lines on the left.

Kekoa laying out the lines on the right.

not even 5 minutes later, double strike. one fish in the cooler.

then there was 2. i lost count after 10.

seen some dolphins diving around the boat. so beautiful!

and what was freaky was all the whales we seen today. so many huge whales jumping all over the place. kind of scary because if one hits the boat, the boat will sink.

imagine driving slowly waiting for a fish to bite. then all of a sudden a huge whale jumps right in front of the boat. it was like this all day long. scary, but exciting.

not to mention the waves that broke over Mayuki. yeah, the swells were so big that it was going over the whole boat. thank goodness none of us fell over.

it was only 12pm and we already had our coolers full with fish. so we started to head in and there came our lucky strike again.

big sailfish, also called “hebi.” super good eating fish to close out the day. after this, we pulled in all lines, and flew back into waikiki.

Kekoa with a big ono or “sawara.”

i use to hate fishing until today. haha. there was so much fish that it wasn’t even funny. just fish biting one after another.

Kyle smashing the big ono.

this is a fisherman’s dream catch. my friend Derek called it a “clean sweep.” that means catching every kind of species of fish all in one day. opps, i mean all in one morning. beginners luck?

you need magic lures to have a magic fishing day. if it wasn’t for these guys, nothing would be in the cooler.
want to thank my fishing buddies Kyle and Kekoa for the perfect fishing day. and want to thank my fisherman friend Derek for inspiring me to fish, never giving up, and coaching me the whole way. Derek told me where the fish were, what to use, what time the fish will bite, and pretty much guided us via text, photos, and calls. mahalo guys!
