Santa's Little Helper

IMG_2564
19 of us Fukunaga’s and Moniz’s on a small deck enjoying christmas dinner. been doing this even before these 2 boys Josh and Seth were even born. so happy to see them growing up year by year moving up and up.

then my 2 nieces Temari and Kelia. yes, Kelia has millions of fans in the world, but to us, she’s just our loving little niece. nothing will ever change.

if you know me, i can talk and talk forever. so imagine 19 of me on 3 small tables talking and talking forever. half way through the night, i asked Hiyori-chan “do you understand what we are talking about? she said “no.” then i thought to myself, not too many people would understand half the things we are talking about. it’s our kind of english. haha.

my grandnephew is the cutest kid in the world. i’m going to make sure i’ll be the first one to take him surfing, hopefully very soon. surfing is in this kids blood and i can’t wait to see him ripping pipeline. that’s what i use to say when the Moniz kids were growing up and guess what? they are all ripping pipeline.

once again, Temari with her dessert creations. the best in hawaii!
christmas is over, but our family traditional new years party is coming next week. can’t wait for that!

December 26, 2014 Hawaii Surf Report

OMG! Abunai!
Good morning 6:20am.
North shore 2-4′ and ugly. Stormy and onshore.
No HIO contest at Haleiwa. Tomorrow ON for sure!
South shore waist high and clean.
West wind today so junky conditions everywhere except East side. South shore clean only in the morning. Sunny and warm day.
Surfing all day.
See you in the water!

A Christmas Family Tradition

want to wish everybody in this world a merry christmas again. i hope you all had a great one. here in hawaii, christmas is a very important time to spend with family and friends. today was no exception. just relax, enjoy the ocean, the mountain, and the family.

when i got up this morning, i couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. the first “no cloud” day in a very long time. just pure blue sky and the freshest air ever. warm, and very inviting. i jump on the bike, did a little tour on a different mountain, find a nice trail, come back down to go surf before i go back up again in the afternoon. yeah, it’s that close!

took Hiyori-chan surfing this morning and the waves were super fun. so stoked to see another great smile on another great day. glad she’s already at the level to surf on her own. it’s called “determination.”

then while the girls took a nap, i jumped on the bike and headed up to the mountain again. today, i wanted to go higher and higher, deeper and deeper.
IMG_2541
usually at this height, i’d be in the clouds already. but because it was such a beautiful day, it was so clear and cool.
IMG_2544
it’s amazing what you will find in the jungle. seen a cool bamboo patch. now i know where to go to get my new fishing pole.
IMG_2540
it was kind of muddy because of the recent rain, but still good enough to get deep.
IMG_2539
panorama views. each and every mountain has a different trail, a different view, and a different way. it’s my interest to find every single way to each and every top. and i’m not stopping till i get there.

then came back home for our family tradition christmas dinner. so stoked to see my nephews and nieces all grown up. hawaiian food at a hawaiian christmas. silent night, holy night.
