i probably sound like a broken record but today was another awesome day too! spent it all day in the ocean again. sunburnt, tired, but feel so satisfied.
i picked up Koguma-san for a morning surf. the waves were super small everywhere and diamond head was the biggest so that’s where we went. we were super lucky to see the hawaiian monk seal taking a suntan. we caught some fun waves and i was stoked to see Koguma-san ripping the waves out at diamond head. a great surfer and a great guy! after some surfing, we headed in, picked up his family, and went down to the harbor.
boarded my boat, went out to get a panoramic scene of waikiki. it’s always good to go out in the ocean with kids and sharing the natural beauty of hawaii. shaka guys!
Dai-kun is only 10 years old and probably the youngest boat captain in the world. it was his first time driving a boat and he got us back to the harbor safely. good job Dai-kun!
and he also caught his first fish today. super happy to see the kids excitement! so pure!
later this afternoon, i went for a dive outside ala moana and you will never guess what i found. i freaking found a black pearl!!!! i’m not joking! i found a tahitian black pearl in the hawaiian ocean. i bet that is the first ever! so stoked!
ended my day watching the golden hawaiian sun going down in the deep blue ocean. so amazing!
what was Hiyori-chan doing today? she was at the water park enjoying her last day here in hawaii. this looks so fun! we are surely going to miss her. so sad.
Family Ocean Day in Hawaii
Last Surf Day
yesterday was another fun day of surfing. nobody can believe how fast Hiyori-chan got in such a short time. starting off on a 11’0, then a 10’0, then a 9’0, 6’8, and now on a 7’0. all in the last 2 weeks is amazing. i let her experience all different kinds of boards and this 7’0 was the best. thank you Toda-san for letting us borrow your board! big smiles from hawaii!
i sat on my boat and watched Hiyori-chan catch a wave by herself. just the determination is incredible. i can see her concentrating on the wave, the moment, and the reward. surfing will change this girls life and after she told me she already asked her mom if she can get a board when she goes back to japan, that made me so happy that Hiyori-chan has the desire to continue surfing.
today is her last day and it’s really going to be hard to say goodbye tomorrow. i get sad even thinking about it. i wish she can live with me forever but i know she has many love ones in japan waiting for her return. every time i see Hiyori-chan, she makes me happy. what this little girl has gone through is too hard to talk about. but what this little girl has ahead of her is going to be amazing. keep on surfing and keep on smiling Hiyori-chan! you did a great job and we are all very proud of you!
