1990年代のこと。当時は毎日バックドアでサーフィンしていた。こんなチューブになる日、僕はそこに身を置いた。過去にバックドアでサーフしたことがあるなら、どれくらい危険か、そしてどれくらいのご褒美があるかがわかるはず。そこでは命を落としたサーファーもいるが、人生で一番のチューブに入ったサーファーもいる。ハイリスク、ハイリワード。これはロングバレルライドには最高のサイズだ。基本的にはパイプラインでテイクアウトし、ビハインドからチューブに入らなければいけない。この一本はメイクできたのか覚えていないけど、ここでは何百本ものバレルにプルインしてきた。何度かケガをしたけど、生きていてよかった。そしてもちろん、僕の人生最高のバレルは全部バックドアで実現している。
