Bumble, Tinder, Match.com: Warning

i have a lot of friends that go on dating apps.  i hear a couple good things about it, but mostly bad things.  i always wondered how you could trust a photo and a profile of someone who is basically a stranger?  do they do background checks?  and how do you know if that person is psycho or not?  those were always the topics of my conversation when my friends and i talk about dating apps…

anyway, last week, this local man who was on the dating app Bumble, met a girl, took her back to his apartment, got a knife, cut up her genital area, she was found naked in the elevator bleeding all over, he was found by the police sleeping on his bed in her pool of blood, he got arrested, went to jail, and got released on bail 2 days later.  so yes, this man is right now on the streets in Hawaii, probably still on a dating app looking for his next victim.

so the next time i get together with my friends and talk about dating apps and social media, this will be a topic for sure.  i’m not the type of person to trust anyone.  i meet people and have a good sense of figuring out what kind of person they are.  but if you were to ask me to figure someone out based on a photo and profile, i’d be lying if i told you i could.  that’s impossible.  and that’s the reason i tell my friends, especially women friends, to stay away from dating apps.  all it takes is one bad judgement call for bad things to happen.  and in the world we live in now, bad things happen way to often…

Foil vs. Fishing…

i paddled out to Kaisers in the dark.  i was the first one out.  when i got to the lineup, i felt something hit my hand.  it was dark so i didn’t know what it was, but i ended up getting tangled in it.  it was thick fishing line!!!  it got tangled in my foil, on my body, and on my leash.  i untied everything by feel and was lucky a wave didn’t come at the time.  the fishing line was attached to the reef on both ends so i couldn’t break it free.  i managed to catch a wave and when i paddled back out, i got tangled up again.  then i thought how dangerous it would be if it wrapped around my hand and a wave came and pushed me in.  then it would basically cut me to my bone.  so as guys were coming out, i was telling them about it.  then one of the guys went back in to grab a knife and cut it off the reef.  there is no reason why a fishing line could be way out there on that reef attached to the reef on both ends.  so i was thinking that somebody put it there on purpose.  crazy…i got to ride 2 waves which were perfect so i was satisfied.  going to go home and take a nap…  then i get a call from Carter saying how perfect Diamond Head is!!!  so i head straight to Diamond Head to check it out.  lots of cars so that means the waves are good. and omg!  it was absolutely perfect!  i grabbed my foil and ran down the cliff.  it was foiling heaven…  by 10am, i had 2 rounds and ready for a deep nap.  dream session…
