November 22, 2020 Hawaii Surf Report

South Shore Perfection…

Good morning 6am.
Ala Moana waist with chest high wind swell sets from the East.
Diamond Head overhead and super bumpy.
Trade winds at 30mph.
Sun, clouds, showers, and huge double rainbows.
Going to foil.
Have a wonderful day!

Vaccine and Violence

here we go.  California and other states are going back into lockdown.  there is a 10pm to 5am curfew as over 13,000 new covid cases are reported everyday.  omg!

the good news is that a vaccine is on the way.  should be here soon but not sure if i’m even going to get one.  i don’t like shots…

and America is going hungry.  long lines of people waiting for food!  there are millions in need and when the unemployment checks stop on December 26, people are going to get even more hungry.

and the violence is only getting worst.  people getting shot, people shooting each other, thief, drugs, alcohol, and lots of people committing suicide.  stress, depression, starvation, and homelessness is part of the problem.  i never thought i’d see America like this…

some Honolulu Police officers were taking advantage of the coronavirus task force money.  they were getting paid more than they supposed to.  so now the government cancelled the covid task force.  that’s very bad news for our community.  getting greedy during a pandemic is pretty sad…

Safe Travels?

as the coronavirus gets worst, the question now is “when can we all travel again?”  as of today, this is what i think.  first, as an American, i still can’t go to Japan so that’s out.  Bali is on my radar because they are accepting American travelers if you get a visa.  i heard it’s one of the best times to go to Bali because it’s empty.  i would love to drive around Kuta with no traffic, and love to surf Keramas with only a few guys.  the only risk about going to Bali is the government is unpredictable.  if they decide to go into lockdown again, you can literally get stuck there for months.  and since there aren’t any direct flights from Hawaii, you can also get stuck in another country while on transit.  that’s a double gamble…

as for Hawaii, it’s totally safe here.  i actually think it’s the best time to be here if you haven’t experienced Hawaii with no tourists.  lots of shops and restaurants are still closed, but there are still lot’s of places open.  i went shopping at Kahala Mall today and it was totally empty.  i felt like i was the only guy in the mall, and almost all shops were open.  as for the beaches, the crowds thinned out because there are waves on all sides of the island.  and the best thing is even though Hawaii goes into another lockdown, you will have time to get back to your country.  there is no way our government will shut it down in a day.  you still need a negative coronavirus test to come, but that’s easy.

so for now, that’s my update on traveling.  i’m still stuck here but i’m not complaining.  i see some tourists starting to come back, and i don’t blame them because i would come to Hawaii too.  i feel like this is the safest place in the world to be right now.  we have strict rules, the coronavirus is somewhat under control, and there is still lots of aloha.  so to all my Japanese friends, now is the time!
