Black is Beautiful…

spending time with the boys is like a dream to me.  watching them grow from little babies into very respected young men.  to most of the world, these kids are surf super stars.  but to me, they are still babies.  wanting to learn more, and wanting to live life more.  the whole trip, they were smiling loving every minute of it.  i sat back and let them drive Mayuki, i watched them free dive, i watched them explore, and i watched them grow.  free diving creates this incredible bond with nature and each other all at once.  i’m not sure how many more of these trips i’ll do with the kids, but i hope they’ll never stop calling me…it was 2 years ago when Joshua caught a fish on a trip.  i told him “now you must clean it and prepare it.”  it was his first time.  it wasn’t pretty, but he did his best.  and now, he’s an expert.  he can clean it, prepare it, and cook it.  i was very impressed with his filet skills…  and this was the first time i told the kids to bring all the food.  usually i’d do everything but those days are over.  they brought fruits, chicken sandwiches, and steak.  and they also brought dessert.  haha.  the only mistake they did was not bringing enough drinking water.  i told them “hey, we can survive without food because we can hunt.  but without water, we will die.  so next time, bring more water!!!!!”i’m pretty happy Matsu got hooked on foiling.  so hooked that he takes portraits of his foil board.  haha.  i did the same thing!  Mike Woo shaped it for us and there are only a few lucky foilers in this world that have one.  isn’t this so beautiful!  now Matsu has the exact same set up as me.  and it’s just a matter of time he’ll foil better than me.  so i better practice more.  haha.  can’t wait to foil with you Matsu!  thanks for the beautiful photos.  black is beautiful!

July 23, 2020 Hawaii Surf Report

Happy Okra Day!

Good morning 4:20am.

Ala Moana waist high and perfect.

Diamond Head chest high and good.

Trade winds at 15mph.

Sunny and warm.

Going foiling.

Have a wonderful day!

Typhoon Douglas…

has some friends foiling the North and West side.  i knew it was going to be good but i wanted to foil closer to home.  5 minutes away is beautiful Diamond Head.  so that’s where i went this morning.

the waves were perfect!  i’d say this Summer is the most consistent by far!

and stay tuned for this weekend.  we have Hurricane Douglas coming our way!  the first hurricane of the season so expect strong winds and big waves.  kind of good for foiling…

this one will be tricky to find the best waves on the island, but i have a feeling where will be super good.  and i’ll be there Sunday!

i was watching the beautiful sunrise from Diamond Head looking out over the horizon.  i could see Molokai, Lanai, and Maui.  i’m already planning my next boat trip!
