A Beautiful Smile

this is my favorite spear gun. it’s a 100cm pipe gun with a custom airbrush. yeah, i sanded it down, got some spray paint, and started to get creative one day. that was about 4 years ago when i had time to do things like this. this gun itself probably caught me, my family, my friends, and my friends friends over $10,000 worth of fish, and over $1,000,000 worth of memories. it’s been around the world and back! i’m never getting rid of this gun. and see that shaft? it’s now bent. $50 will buy me another one and i’m not sure if i will ever attempt to spear a big fish anymore. i’d rather have my $50 than a big fish.

see that red fish with the white stripes? that kumu is the best tasting fish in hawaii that will cost you around $60 in a chinese restaurant. you have to try it someday.

i kept a couple of kole’s, and ended up taking the ulua and other fish down to some friends that live on the beach. they were so happy to be able to eat fresh fish to start the new year. happy new year boys!

December 31, 2013 Hawaii Surf Report

South shore waist high and new South/West swell coming this week! Calm wind in the morning becoming light East at 10mph.
Good morning conditions everywhere.
Super sunny New Years Eve!
Going surfing all day.
Have a wonderful last day of 2013 in Hawaii!
And Happy New Year Japan!

Dive, Ulua, Kole, Kumu, Surf, Fish, and Sunset

first, i want to wish Takeda-san to get well soon. he called me early this morning and told me he couldn’t surf today because he had high fever. omg, coming to hawaii and getting sick is not that great. Takeda-san, get better soon and see you Jan. 2. once you catch a wave, everything will be alright!
so it’s 7am and i have an unexpected day off. surf? not interested as the waves were super junk. too big and stormy on the north shore, and too small on the south. so i call Kyle and we went for a quick morning dive.

i went to load up on some kole’s when Kyle called me over. he said “there’s an ulua in the hole.” i said “spear it!” he said “i don’t want to bend my shaft.” me too. he saw it again and didn’t take the shot. then i went down and saw it, i didn’t take the shot. the chance is really high of bending your $50 shaft for a big fish like that. i told Kyle, “ok, if i get a good shot at it, i’ll take it.” then i swim down to the hole, look inside, see the fish, line up my spear right to the top of the fishes brain, and SHOOT! i thought for sure he was dead as i started pulling him out of the hole. then he kicked, turned, and bent my shaft!!! i was pissed! and Kyle was laughing. haha.

Kyle played it safe and speared this tasty kumu instead. now i’m minus $50 and have a gun with a bent shaft. bummer.

then i went to pick up Hiyori-chan from school. the waves came up in the afternoon in the chest high size and super perfect! i taught Hiyori-chan how to turn right today and she rode the waves all the way to the right. amazing talented girl!
