Quiksilver Crowns Josh Moniz 2010 ???King of the Groms??? Regional West Coast Winner”
this was the headlines everywhere on the internet yesterday. my nephew josh moniz got the biggest win of his life!!! he beat 48 of the top groms in america at california. even beating surf stars like kanoa igarashi, kalani david, and koa smith. now only did josh win $400, josh will be going on an all-expense paid trip to the Quiksilver Pro France to compete in the Global King of the Groms Championships this september. a free trip to europe? way to go josh!!! i’m so happy that each of the boys shine in their own way. seth, josh, and isaiah keep on pushing each other and that’s what’s taking them to the top. andy and bruce irons were 2 competitive brothers, now there’s 3 brothers that just don’t want to lose. as for me, i’m going to sit back and enjoy every win these boys get. i couldn’t be more proud of these boys….
here’s josh’s comment after winning:

**hey, check out the news from yesterday. diamond head? shit, i was just there!!! everybody please be careful….
A suspect, who is still at large, robbed a man returning to his car after surfing at Diamond Head last night, police said.
The 35-year-old man had gotten out of the water and was heading back to his car at about 8:15 p.m. when he noticed a man in the back of his vehicle.
Police said the suspect demanded the victim’s property and hit the surfer in the back of the head with what appeared to be a black handgun before fleeing.
No description was provided of the suspect.

A Young Man's Dream….
good morning. 7 am and the waves are going off!! solid 3′ and perfect. i’m going surfing!!! have a nice day.

i had a dentist appointment yesterday and was running late. i didn’t eat lunch and i knew that my mouth would be numb for hours so i better get something to eat. only had 10 minutes so i stopped by mcdonalds. yuck!! i hate mcdonalds!!! i ordered the angus beef burger with fries and a big drink. after a few bites, i felt like i drank a cup of oil. i couldn’t finish it and felt worst than i did before i got there. i don’t ever want to eat there again…

then when i got to my dentist, they took my blood pressure. oh my gosh!!! 144 115. that’s the highest ever!! i usually average around 131 83. i blame on that ronald mcdonald…. after my dentist, i went to surf to burn off some calories. and i still feel sick….

i met this kid from california named Yaasin about 3 years ago. he found me through youtube and has been following go-naminori ever since. we’ve been exchanging emails talking about surfing, education, and life. yaassin has a dream, which is to come to hawaii to surf. he’s been dreaming everyday for a long time and is taking the right steps on making that dream come true. i always stressed to him that education is very important and i’m so proud of him recently graduating from his freshman year in college. yassin’s been studying japanese so he’s been sending me emails in both japanese and english. he’s very respectful, very smart, and very positive. i’m going to meet this kid and take him surfing some day. if i can help him stay on the right track with education, japanese, and kindness, i’ll do what ever it takes. kids like yassin are rare these days and kids like yassin are the kind of people that could make a difference in this world…
hey yassin,
what’s up dude. thanks for the email. sorry for the late response. i know you know i’m pretty busy here in hawaii. it’s a bummer you couldn’t make it over in april, but i’m glad you didn’t because i wasn’t here anyway. let me know your plans so we can go surf someday and enjoy hawaii. congratulations on completing your first year as a freshman in college. you got 3 more years to go so please don’t give up. ganbatte!!! when you stay focus and graduate from college, you will have a feeling that not too many people have. you will come out a confident young man that will have the ability to do anything you please. don’t worry about sacrificing surfing for now, the ocean will always be there for you. and i’m stoked you started a blog dude. now i can follow a young mans road to his dreams. remember, stay focused, get good grades, don’t party, graduate from college, and the world will be yours. and hey, i’ll link your blog on go-naminori. you deserve to be on there. keep in touch..
aloha,
kirby

when i first started diving in high school, my dream was to spear a small papio, or “travelly.” got it. 10 years ago, my dream was to spear an “uku.” got it. 8 years ago, my dream was to spear a big ono or “sawara.” finally got it. my next dream? spear an elephant. haha. just joking… i guess my next dream is to spear a big tuna or “maguro.” it might take days, or it might take years, i might see one, or i might not, i might miss, or i might lose my gun, it might kill me, or it might not. that’s the part of diving i love most. you don’t know what will happen, you can only imagine….
wanted to thank kyle for taking this photo that day. also thank you for taking us on your boat, and thank you for giving the fish the backup shot. i couldn’t have done it without you. and for of those of you who want to see the video, please wait because i’m too busy. i got the fish coming in, the shot, and everything else. i just wish i had the sharks trying to eat me. i’m still bummed at that…..
